Quantick Safety Systems Supplied Cardiff Harbour Authority a range of anti-slip and safe access products for their project renovating the Senedd Boardwalk, situated on the waterfront in Cardiff Bay, directly outside the Senedd the home of the National Assembly for Wales.
Quantick Safety worked closely with Cardiff Harbour Authority on this project and offered product solutions in order to overcome issues they were facing, with slip resistance requirements and aids for the visually impaired, in order to ensure that the boardwalk renovations were compliant to relevant standard/regulations and safe for all to use.
There Were two main challenges with this project which were; increasing the slip resistance and safety for people traveling on the Composite decking boards as there were concerns they posed a slip risk when wet, and Providing anti-slip and safe access for all on the stairs on the boardwalk.
To overcome the concerns with the slip resistance of the composite decking boards, quantick took delivery of the composite decking boards and factory installed our CarbiGrip carborundum anti-slip insert into the boards thus providing greatly improved anti-slip and making the boards low risk of slips in wet and dry conditions. The boards were then returned to Cardiff Harbour Authority and Installed across the newly refurbished Senedd Boardwalk.
To Overcome the safety and accessibility issues for the visually impaired in respect to the stairs; quantick supplied custom made GRP anti-slip nosings in yellow, so that the stairs had a contrasting riser and tread and were also anti-slip reducing further the risks of any slips and falls in the wet. To aid the visually impaired on the stairs quantick also supplied GRP Corduroy Hazard Warning Tactiles to provide the partially sighted tactile warning of the upcoming hazard imposed by the stairs and to make them easier to navigate.
